Salads for you

Salads may look boring to you, but given the many ingredients that you can use, you can make them colourful and exciting. For a start, use lettuce as the base. You may also use other leafy varieties that are found on supermarket shelves these days. Mushrooms can also be added for flavour and also due to their nutrition value.Do not forget tomatoes, baby carrots and broccoli as well. Try using peppers in different colours. They can add lots of colours as well as the many minerals, antioxidants and vitamins.

You can also add nuts and seeds. They add crunch to the taste. They are rich in essential oils, proteins and minerals. Do take note that they are high in calories, do add in moderation. Sunflower seeds and sliced almonds are the most popular. Go for unsalted ones. If possible, you can also include raisins for their sweetness.

To top it up, add hard boiled eggs or lean meats. It is a very satisfying meal, not forgetting the low calories as well. You may add salad dressing but add in moderation as well because it is high in fats and salt. Have lots of fun!
